maryeve0705 I love this whole album! Every song joins together so well. This was all I listened to on my last solo camping trip until it became a soundtrack to my summer. Hands down, the best album I have heard in years!

about

General Thoughts:

The golden record floating through space on the Voyager has always fascinated me. What would an intelligent alien creature truly think of it if it ever reached one? Well, to them it would be some strange transmissions from elsewhere.

To us, however, it is the music we treasure; sounds we deem meaningful. To us, these transmissions are from our home.

But I love to imagine what an alien would think of our home and all of the things we create here because it allows me to view that which we take for granted with a little more wonder and awe. Why do we make meaning out of sound and color and light?

Even, or especially, to hear the sound of nature is rejuvanating and calming and meaningful. Because despite the odds we live in a world full of beauty and splendor.

About This Album:

Like the last album, I manipulate and layer various samples to create atypically structured songs. My hope is that each turn surprises the listener despite the often gentle or chill vibe of the record.

The title refers to the above idea and as a general theme, the music is often filled with static, reverb, and reversed sounds. This gives it an old or spacey quality. The second to last track, okayhuman, exemplifies this best when it samples a recording from an astronaut on Apollo 10 in 1969. The astronaut thinks he hears a sound "from outer space," but it is probably just the spaceship itself.

And finally, we can fully realize that these transmissions are from the earth when the record ends with 3 minutes of nature sounds. I, for one, am grateful to be on this planet and I sincerely hope that those who have the power to slow and stop climate change will do so.

Thank you.
